About Sonoita and the town of Patagonia

Sonoita is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. The population was 826 at the 2000 census. The origin of the name of the CDP is the O'odham Ṣon ʼOidag, which may be best translated as "spring field". (There are several places that the O'odham call Ṣon ʼOidag within 200 km of this place, all agricultural spots.) Sonoita has for many years been a popular place for wealthy Arizonans to establish vacation and retirement homes and ranches. Sonoita is presently experiencing significant growth.

Patagonia is a town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. As of 2010 Patagonia had a population of 913. Patagonia was formerly a supply center for nearby mines and ranches. Currently, it is a tourist destination, retirement community and arts & crafts center. The Nature Conservancy's Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve is adjacent to the town. Native Seeds/SEARCH also maintains an active farm for growing out and preserving seed of endangered crops in the area.
